METABOLIC TESTING

New at Nautilus! The MetaCheck Metabolic testing can assist you with your individual weight management program by providing an accurate, professional-quality metabolic rate measurement. A simple, 10 minute analysis can estimate your caloric requirements for weight loss, gain or maintenance. The test will also compare your metabolic rate to normal values based on age, sex, height, and weight and provide a suggested daily caloric intake on a full page printout.

FAQ’s ABOUT METABOLIC TESTING

Why should I have my metabolic rate tested?
Everyone has a unique metabolic rate. Scientific studies show that even people with similar attributes like age, height, weight, and body composition can have very different metabolic rates. This simple and affordable test reveals how many calories your body burns at rest, giving you the data you and your personal trainer need to plan a weight loss, gain, or maintenance plan designed to achieve your personal fitness goals.

How does the MetaCheck measure metabolic rate?
The human body consumes a fixed amount of oxygen per calorie burned. The MetaCheck measures the amount of oxygen in the air a person exhales to calculate how much oxygen his or her body is consuming. Based on that oxygen consumption, the MetaCheck then figures the exact amount of calories that person is burning.

How can I increase my metabolic rate?
One of the greatest factors that determines your metabolic rate is genetics, which you obviously cannot change, but the amount of lean body mass one has is also a determining factor. People with more muscle tissue usually have a higher metabolic rate. Other factors that can also increase your metabolic rate are adequate sleep, decreased stress, small frequent meals, adequate water consumption, and regular exercise with an increased amount of resistance training. Resistance training adds lean muscle mass, which expends more calories than fat or other tissues, thus raising your metabolic rate.
